From the Newspapers, translated…
Although the “Clown Doctors” are associated with fun and laughter, but, they’re not all, popular with all the children, some of the children who are ill, seeing the red-nosed clown approaching, they’d get really scared, and, there were, adolescent patients who got so taken by what’s on their cell phones, that they’d not want to be “stupid” with the clown doctors at all; facing this sort of issues, the clown doctors had to, use everything that they possibly have, or, pulling out those toy currencies, to “bribe” these young patients.
Ma said, some of the kids are afraid of strangers, there was a little boy, who saw a clown, and started screaming, “I don’t want clown!”, and, several times they’d visited, they couldn’t, get into his room, later on, the clowns took out a model dinosaur to play with the boy, and, the dinosaur started, blowing fire out of his nostrils, and, kicked the smaller dinosaur, as well as the clown’s butt too, and the clown later on, became an outlet for the children, helping them, get rid of all that anger that’s within them, because they fell ill.
the clown doctors in “action” here…
“I’m not a kid, thank you.”, as the clown doctors made their ways, to the juvenile ward, the patients reacted, more coldly to them, and, some of the patients even thought, that the clown doctors’ being there was, keeping them away from the games on their cells. The clown doctor, Huei-Jun Hsieh saw an adolescent male playing on the gaming devices, she’d reminded him, that it was time, to “change gears”, and, the teenager who was originally cold, started showing some friendliness toward her.
Hsieh said, that as the children were being treated, they can only answer “YES”, without the right to choose; but, in interacting with a clown doctor, the children have the choice, to decide, whether or not they want to interact with the clowns, and, rejecting them, is also helpful, in helping them get rid of some of that negative energy. There was, a five-year-old child who’d loved being in “command”, when the clown doctors made the visits, he would loudly order the clown into the closets to serve some jail time, and when he’d found that the clown doctors made mistakes, he’d written them tickets, and so, when the clown doctors visited him, the doctors would always make mistakes, so the little boy can have some fun, ordering people around.
Hsieh said, the clown doctors would wear pants with over-sized pockets, or have a huge backpack, with an assortment of items inside, other than the toy stuffed animals, the instruments, or gadgets to do magic with, there would be, toy money too, to “bribe” the children, to create that joyous atmosphere in the hospital ward.
And so, this, is unlike how in the adult wards, when the patient told the doctors or the nurses NO, these clown doctors have ways, to get the kids, involved in the activities, plus, who, can say no to a clown, who brings happiness to the world, right? That, is why this program is working so wonderfully right now.
