As Alzheimer’s Disease became the lesson of the entire globe, the Netherlands set up the world’s only community made up of demented elderly, De Hogeweyk, the store clerks, the mail carriers, the gardeners are all, trained in caring for the demented elderly, and, the over hundred demented elderly who lived there are living like in Truman’s World, but they were given, the best care too. Feng, from the legislative department stated, that if Taiwan is to have a similar place like the Netherlands, then, we must have the support of the long-term care insurances.
“By 2050, the world is going to have more than a hundred million in the population who had become demented”, Yvonne van Amerongen-Heijer yesterday, spoke, on the World’s Asian Long-Term Care Conference, she’d talked about this “village of demented elderly”. The land of this village is about 16,500 square meters, it took in the mildly to severely demented elderly, and now, there are, 152 elders living on the property, with 140 full staff members, and these staff members played many roles, such as cashiers, gardeners, artists, customers, to give the best kind of care to the demented elderly, so they don’t have to worry about being well.
Yen Feng who is a regulations legislator said, that Taiwan had been pushing forth the ideals of aging at home, and actively aging, and that there are providers who are already, planning out the setting of the demented villages, but, there may be many difficulties, facing making the thought into reality, before the long-term care insurances gets passed into law, even IF there are shops who are willing to, but because of the costs, it’d become, the “village for the rich”.
But, there is still something, to take away, from the idea of a village of demented individuals, Feng said, before the passing of the long-term care legislatures, the Legislative Branch has the intentions of passing the “Combined Living Home”, advocating the siblings, after their empty nests, to move in together; or to use the smaller apartments in Taiwan, to set it up as a collective residential apartment for the elderly, and this would cut down the costs, and the people living in these communities can look out for one another.
And so, this, is an idea, that may or may not work, because the living environment is totally different compared to the Netherlands, so, a lot still needs to be planned out, on this matter, but, it’s an idea that might become viable in the future…
