Becoming More Environmentally Aware Through the Products We are Buying

The experiences of life, translated…

I kept believing, that using life to fight, is the hardest, but the best way, to change.

From breakfast, taking out, the eggrolls, with the milk teas, if we picked everything up, we’d have a plastic bag, a small plate, a cup with plastic seals, a straw, and a pair of chopsticks (and for the sake of sanitations, everything is inside separate plastic covers).  For lunch, it’s fish ball stew noodle, a huge paper bowl, with the plastic covering, plus the chopsticks, the plastic spoon, a bag to carry it all in, with a paper cup from the freshly blended juice varieties, straw, and cup cover.  Then, if you have your suppers and your midnight snacks take out too, how any plastic items would you have, please, do count them all out (with ALL of your fingers AND toes, and, there may not be enough appendages on your body for everything).

Recently, I’d started, trying something new out (following a trend, I suppose), other than doing away with the plastic bags and the nonreusable utensils, I’d started, challenging the reductions of takeout containers, the cups, as well, as the straws too.  This, is easily thought on, but, a bit, challenging—this meant, that as a working class in the city, I wouldn’t be able to be as able-bodied, as swift, as those models on the magazines, with a suitcase in hand, a jacket in another.  But, for the sake of fulfilling the requirements of my taking out the foods, I’d needed to bring my drinking mug, the Tupperware, my chopsticks, my own reusable straw, as well as shopping bags with me when I go out.

Gladly, in recent years, a lot of people are taking note of how environmental unfriendly it would be, to use those plastic utensils that can’t be used over again, so, there’s a wide acceptance of reusable utensils now, and, a lot of the small food shops no longer provided for those use-and-dispose chopsticks or spoons either.

Okay, I’d passed the beginner’s exam, now comes the more advanced version.  On the weekends, I’d gone to the marketplaces to pick up the needs, such as: cooking oils, toilet paper, soap, milk, instant noodles, canned foods, eggs, tofu, kitty litter, etc., etc., etc., there is, an assortment of thrown away containers, it’s hard, to imagine those shower gels without the bottles, the milk, cheese, even, a fish, six eggs, three pieces of steak………why do you need to give yourselves the troubles?  But, there are, people who, are trying it out, there was a no-packaging supermarket in the city of Berlin, Germany, with noodles, shower gels, coffee beans, wine, as well as the rest of the daily living items, but, if you want to buy these, you’d needed, to bring your own containers, although, it’s a bit troublesome, and there would be, less varieties, but, don’t forget, because of the inconveniences, there would be more creativities, in ways you can come up with, to resolve the issues you may encounter.

not my sign…

These sort of fresh new belief, is sprouting up in Taiwan too.  Bring your own containers, buying the cleaning agents, based off of the amount you’d placed in the containers you brought from home, is the methods of “Square Home”, taking off the outside plastic covers of the soaps is one of their ideas, the goal is for the consumers to figure out how much s/he needs, and buy the appropriate amount, it’s fresh, and, there wouldn’t be any extras left over, and, on top of that, there are similar things happening in Taipei too, the baked goods and spices, without the lowest amount to buy, encouraging people to buy what they need, and to not buy in excess.

And so, this, is a way, we can, help, reduce the total amount of TRASH we produce daily, and, this, is a great way, to help out the environment, besides, we can all, DO away, with so many plastic bags, so many containers that are only used, at the time we bought those things, right?  After all, who needs that many plastic bottles, bottles for wines, etc., etc., etc., lying around the house???

not my picture still!
