These past couple of days, the teacher discussed a news story with the class, it got me thinking.
A last year middle school girl, accused that the instructor was discriminatory against her for being the child of a migrated person, had made fun of, taunted her. The female student was written up, she’d gotten angered, threw an apple at her instructor, and was told to write a letter of regret. After she’d written that letter, she’d used the excuse of needing to go to the restroom, and went up to the fifth floor, and took the leap downward, she’s still being resuscitated right now.
I’d wondered, why didn’t that letter of regret alarm the instructor? The content had, “My instructor insulted my mom” “I’ll see the world the next time around”, as well as other harsh statements, it’d clearly shown this student’s state of mind being unstable, but the instructor didn’t talk with her in time. And, being given a warning was only the igniting point, so, what, was the fuse? I imagine, that it must be what the student mentioned in her letter of regret, “my teacher insulted my mom”. And, shouldn’t her instructor have the responsibilities, to get to the bottom of the problems?
And, how did the letter of regret came into the public’s knowledge? This, was a second time damage to the young woman. I’d once thought about it, had the schools taken care of the student’s emotions in the shortest time, to help her clarify the causes of what had actually happened, although the student would no doubt, still be reprimanded, but, the result would be, over ten times better than the outcome right now, wouldn’t it?
What’s the purpose of having a student write a letter of apology? For the student to note what s/he did wrong; and when these notes were written, in accordance to what the teachers wanted to read from the students, the teacher stamped on it, and that, was the end of that, did, the students learn anything in the process? I believe, that the answer to that is definitely N-O-T!
And so, this goes into retracing the events, leading up to the middle school student’s suicide, and, her suicide was the result, and now, we must try to figure out, what had, caused this outcome, was it an accumulation of the things that the teenager was experiencing, being discriminated against by the teacher, her fellow class members, because her mother was a foreign bride, or, was it, something else? And now, we will NEVER know for sure, because the only one who can answer it is dead!
