A woman, Du needed some extra money, she’d first, became friends with the employees in the shops in Beitou, Danshui, then, sent them her homemade “spiced up coffee”, multiple employees had fallen victim, after drinking the coffee, mixed in with some sleeping pills, they’d become, drowsy, and were, robbed. As Du was arrested, she’d stated, that before she’d offered the spiced up coffees to the workers, she’d had her husband, and eight-year-old son, “try it out”. The Shihlin District Courts found her guilty of robbery and theft, gave her twelve years in prison.
Du (age 51) had priors in robbery, two years ago in July, she’d had troubles sleeping she’d gone to the hospitals to pick up a level three restricted medicine FM2, but this sleep aid that’s to help her become sedated so she could sleep easier became a tool that helped her committed the crimes.
Two years ago on New Year’s Eve, Du went to a couture shop in Danshui to pick up some articles of clothing, she’d “kindly” handed the coffee she has to the female stores clerk, Lin, shortly thereafter, Lin felt drowsy and became unconscious. Du took the clothes without paying for them, made her get away. Another couture shop in Beitou was also robbed using the same methods, the female store clerk, Wang thought that the shopper had gone out of her way, bought her two cups of coffee, and didn’t expect, that she’d felt so drowsy after drinking and, when she woke, she found her cell phone, and wallet all gone.
The police investigated, found that Du robbed at least three couture shops and a jewelry shop, and, because of the jewelry shop’s policy of no drinking anything while on the job, the female store clerk was able to keep all the assets of the shop. Last January, Du went to a jewelry shop owned by a Japanese person, claimed that she was there, to see if the shop’s gold pieces were real, used the claims of how she was hired by the shop, to see if the items are pure gold or not, and attempted to give the store clerks the same spiced up coffee, but, the two women were very concentrated on explaining each of the pieces that the store has, “I couldn’t get them to drink it down, NO matter how hard I’d pressed them to”.
After the customer walked out, the female store clerk took a drink from the coffee and felt dizzy and sleepy, she fell into panic and notified the police. The police managed to found the Flunitrazepam, and after the victims took urine tests, it was proven, that they were, drugged. As Du was arrested, she’d played dumb, “I can’t understand what you’re talking about”.
Du claimed to have a mental condition, but the judge believed that Du had, taken the grinded sleeping pills out with her, persuaded the victims to drink it, and, fled, after her plan didn’t work, this sort of complicated activity required a sound mind and certain level of cognitive ability to perform, that it didn’t fit the usual case of someone with a severe mental conditions, he’d believed, that she was capable of knowing how responsible she was when she’d committed the crimes.
So, because this woman saw an opportunity, she took it, and, she knowingly BROKE the law, and now, she’s facing charges, that just shows, how you won’t get away, with trying to commit a crime, no matter what, you WILL get C-A-U-G-H-T!
