Life, the Obstacle Course

My 104-Year-Old Father’s Key to Staying Healthy

On living long and healthy, translated…

My dear old dad is 104 this year, she was born, in 1912, and, every time that someone asks his age, I’d told the person, that he’s the same age as the R.O.C.

My father was from Jiangsu, at age eighteen, he’d enlisted, gone through the wars with Japan, in 1949, he’d followed the Nationals to Taiwan; later on, because of the reordering of his military group, he’d retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel, then, he’d transferred to work in the government, until he’s retirement age.

When I’d carried on in conversation with him regularly, he’d often told me, “a person won’t be poor, if he knows how to plan”.  Reminded me, that I’d needed a plan for everything I do; I’d taken his words to heart, I’m closing in to sixty year of age, and, his advice had worked wonderfully, I have my basic needs fulfilled, thinking on it closely, dad’s words are based off of reason!

Regularly my dad would eat healthy, he’s usually quite healthy, thanks for my mom’s carefully taking care of him, and how he’d not gotten any bad habits when he was younger, early to bed, early to rise, and worked out regularly.  The only problem he had was he’d become hard-of-hearing in his left year, he’d told me, that his eardrums were broken by the loud cannons firing off during the war.

Since my dad retired from the government position, he’d still kept up with the habits of exercising, every morning he’d risen at four thirty, walked around the reservoir once, about two hours a day.  And, because he’d gotten older lately, his physique was weakened, so now, he’d, walked around our neighborhood.

It’s a wonderful thing, to be blessed with long life, health is even MORE precious, if a person doesn’t have good health, then, no amount of money, or a high status quo won’t amount to anything at all.

My father is over a hundred years old now, someone once told me, that longevity is inherited, and that the offspring of someone who has a long life will to, live long.  Actually, so long as a person is healthy, safe, and happy, as for whether or not it’s a must to have a long life, I don’t believe that it’s that important, because I’d always believed, that life is destined.

The saying of “An elderly at home is a treasure”; and, if this elderly is a person who’s living past a hundred, and, the person would become an even rarer gem in the eyes of the people.

So, the keys to stay healthy is exercising, socialize, keep up with the physical abilities, like this elderly person, who’d gone through everything in his life, and, he’d kept to his healthy way of life, and that, is why he’s able to live this long.

and no, still NOT my photograph…
