The Syrian Physician Became a Smuggler, and He Was Able to Make Three Million Dollars a Month

The Syrian physician, Mahamed (a false name), after the war broke out in Syrian, he’d escaped to Turkey, and started working as a human smuggler, in just the month of September, he’d made $100,000USD, made more than he did when he worked as a physician, and yet, this shows the dire situation in Syria at the same time.

The Daily Telegraph from England reported on the 20^th that Mahamed at an interview in a café in Istanbul, his cell phones rang off the hooks, and, the callers were clients, as well as mediators, and some others.  He’d told, that a few days ago, the police came to his office to do a sweep, and extorted him for $1,000USD.  Mahamed said, that the hardest part was not dealing with the police, or mediating the deals, the most troubling is that he’s now, on an active arrest list by the INTERPOL, and so, he’d changed his name, and, fled from southern Turkey to Istanbul to hide out.

The real crisis in Syria is in that the ordinary citizens turned into criminals, they’re already, completely, desperate toward living a normal life in Syria now.  Mahamed had a doctor’s office in a city in Syria, but as the rebels made their way into his town three years ago, he was persecuted by both the rebels and the nationals.  The army from the government used his medical expertise and had him take care of the wounded soldiers in battle, and, the rebels are now, after him, because he’d helped the government.

Mahamed decided to escape to Turkey, but his ship was sunk,  he’d worked hard to save as many as he could, but, a ton of women and children drowned before his eyes, he and his relatives stayed afloat in the seas for eleven hours, then, someone came to their rescue.  After a couple of tries he’d finally found a way, into Turkey, via the snakeheads.  He’d realized, that he was, excellent in negotiating the deals between the refugees and the snakeheads, “People trusted me because I’m a doctor.  At first, I didn’t charge people commission, but I have a house to keep, this became, a good business.”

Mahamed worked with the mafia, the workers helped the clients to the seaside, with the mobsters in charge of the working of the ships.  He’d charged the refugees $5,000USD per person, to get them out, but he’d still needed to subtract the amount he needed to pay to the mobsters, and the cost of the ships.  He said proudly, that in the past years, he managed to get eight to nine thousand people to Italy and Greece, and, without the ships sinking, or any drownings of the refugees.

Mahamed blamed the European government for the crisis of the refugees, especially how Greece had opened up its northern borders; and all the refugees had to do was to make their ways up to Greece, then, they would get a ticket into the richer territories, so that was why it cost more, to get to Norway or Sweden, via Greece, even more expensive than into Germany.  He said, “even if the borders are closed, and the refugees have to dig an underground tunnel, they will make their ways up to the European Union nations.”

And so, this, is why this business of human smuggling is so lucrative, because there’s a HUGE crisis in Syrian, and the longer the refugees stayed put, chances will be, that they will die, so, that, is why they’re all, trying to get out, and, because they’re that desperate, that, is why there are bad people who are taking advantage of this bad situation…
