Life, the Obstacle Course

This College Student, Gotten Too Addicted to His iPad, He’d Flunked ALL the Courses He’d Taken

The observations from an associate professor of law, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

To the officer workers, computers are a necessity; to younger generations going to school, there are, a lot who believe that computer is an important tool for learning, especially with high-speed internet, convenient, fun, with an assortment of information, connecting with the rest of the world.  But, a lot of students, the first thing when they wake up, is turning on their computers, and, before they head off to bed, turning off their computers, they’d even eaten their meals in front of the screen, other than moving their fingers and eyeballs, they don’t move another muscle on their bodies.  During the semester, and, even more so when the kids are off on winter and summer vacations, don’t clean up their rooms, not even think about going outdoors to get some sun, joining in extracurricular activities, taking up a hobby, there’s just, computer.

Hung online all day long in front of the screens every single day, what, exactly are they doing?  Researching for reports?  Writing theses?  Discussing homework with classmates on FB?  Sure, there are those who are doing that, but, the percentage of students doing that is very miniscule, they turn on their computers, ready to work on their assignments, but, several hours passed, and, the assignments are still, blank pages.  They’re all, busy, checking out Facebook, playing games, watching films, chasing the soaps, and, reading the boards of discussions, and joining in, but what they’re all discussing are limited to what happened in school, and the tabloids; a lot of the students don’t even read the news on what’s happening in their residential regions, and, other than checking out the sports, they’d avoided the international news too.

I had a student once, who’d gotten so caught up in his iPad, and started shoving cookies with one finger, playing the games for a week, he’d managed to earn over ten million cookies, and, when I asked him if he actually got to chew on one?  He’d just, smiled, like a dummy, if someone didn’t delete the program, it seemed, that he’ll be, earning his “cookies” until his dying days, and what’s waiting for him, are the failing grades, and, the extra money spent on retaking the courses in the summer terms.

Can the adults prevent this?  Not at all, if the schools cut off the internet services, the students will surely revolt; the parents couldn’t do anything about those kids who don’t live in school either, if they forced their kids to stop using the internet, then, there would be CRACKS in the family relationships, and the kids can always head to the net cafés, a lot of the calculating centers in college ARE like those 24-hour net cafés already, if we put a restriction on the computers, then, the cell phones, the iPad, basically anything with a screen, the students will be slaves to them all.

The effects of long-term computer usage can cause myopia, obesity, bad postures, sore shoulders and necks, and it’d ended up, affecting the grades too; and, all of these, are smaller matters, the worst part of it is how this addiction can damage the minds.  The computer will stop the normal interpersonal relationships, and people would get drawn, into the bliss of the virtual world, but one day, they will find, that this world they’re so entrapped into is false, and the time and the energy spent, getting addicted, no amount of money can get back, and, that, would be when the individuals discovered, that there’s this LACK of meaning to their lives—teenage suicides, the crime rates on the increase, are all closely related to internet usage.

If you can turn your computers off, for just a few hours outside of class, you will, become the REAL winners in life!

So, this, is a call out, to all the younger children in school right now, but, because everything IS happening online, look at the goings on of those stars on Twitter (no, don’t have an account, nor would I need one!), and FB, and those KUDOS, I just gotta get me more, and that, is how the younger generations becomes completely, totally, drawn-in, and ADDICTED, and, it will BE impossible, to QUIT this addiction, because, look around you, how many high-tech products do you have, and, how many are you currently using, from a day to day basis?  Exactly!
