His Grades Were from the Lower End, But After His Parents Just Allowed Him to Be, He’d Become a Representing Competitor Internationally

Sometimes, you just have to, let your children BE, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

Letting your children develop based off of their own interest profile, this, is a very important lesson for the parents.  The gold medalist of the Sao Paulo International Carpentry Skills Competition, Shue-Yi Su, both his parents are school instructors, although he’d scored at the bottom half of his classes in middle school, but his parents let go, and allowed him to do what interested him, and finally, he’d put Taiwan on the map on the “skills area”, his mother, Ching-Hsiang Wu said, “Learn to let go, and just trust in your child!”

The parenting expert, Ju-Hsien Peng believed, that every child has a talent that’s waiting to be discovered, there’s the passions for learning, and, they all have their unique ways to learn, “if the children have the thoughts, then, we must help them find their ways!”

Ching-Hsiang Wu is the school principal for Lang-Tang Elementary School in Chiayi, her husband is a professor in Chia-Yi University.  As Shue-Yi Su was in his middle school years, he’d made bad grades, and, his classmates called him “stupid”, at first, Ching-Hsiang Wu was panicky, and started crying a lot over how her son wasn’t doing well enough in school.  But later, she’d had a change of thought, if her child isn’t studious, then, why not let go, allow him to go where his interests take him, she’d transferred Shue-Yi Su to a technical class, and, later on, her son went into the technical skills program in Chiayi Technical High School.

“Every child has her/his talent!”, Ching Hsiang Wu told, that she’d never scolded her son on his scholastic performances, and would encourage him, “You’re just, slow on getting it”, during the time when her son was training to compete in the international realm, he’d practiced from dawn ‘til dusk, and never complained of being tired, and, she was surprised at how focused her son was in competition.  As she saw her son shine through on the international stages, every single hard step she’d taken here, it’s been more than worth it!

So, this, is a mother’s process from holding on too strong, hanging on too tight, grilling her son about not doing well enough in academics, to finally, letting go, allow him, to pursuit his own interests, and, this young man did shine, after he’d gained his parents’ support in what he wanted to do, that still just shows, how books are NOT the only way to excel!
