These, are the childhood memories, translated…
When I talk about life in Singapore, people would be misled into believing, that there’s this strictness to the law, and the heavy burdens of the academia for the students, but, the experience I had at the international school in Singapore wasn’t like so at all, instead, it’d added a wide variety of experiences, enriching my life.
My five years in elementary school in Singapore were the most unforgettable, with little homework, even less testing, we have a ton of time to engage in extracurricular activities, to the poolside to swim, to learn to dance, to ice skate, gymnastics, I’d even taken up golf too. The students from the international schools were from a wide variety of countries, my best friends include Japanese, Dutch, and Korean, it was, like a miniature global community in itself. Every time there’s something happening at school, the gym would put up the flags from the various countries, it’d become a huge kaleidoscope.
The activity I missed the most, and loved the most was the annual global village carnival, the students from various countries, with the parents, prepared items from their homeland, and, we’d gotten the chances to savor the foods from all over the world, and get to know other cultures as well.
The school would also have performances, to allow the students from the varied countries to perform the dances, the music, and attire as well, so we can get to know the differences between our cultures, and, learn to admire, and respect each other for our differences. I remember, that I performed the dance of the natives in Taiwan, sang the songs by A-Mei, with classmates from Taiwan, and, we’d gotten a lot of applauses for it.
I missed the days in Singapore, because the traffic was not at all congested, there’s good sanitation, as well as safety. The five years I had over there allowed me to make friends with students from all over the world, it’d granted me a happy childhood.
I’m very lucky to study at an international school, and, as I’d returned to Taiwan, there were more and more homework assignments, and, more tests too, and, I’m being pressured daily, it’d made me miss the life back in Singapore, and I hoped, that I will get a chance, to return there again.
So, this, is your experience, living, studying in another country, and, you’d broadened your horizons, and, I’m sure, that being in a country that’s so accepting, so respecting to other people’s culture, and, if we can, incorporate this method of education to every place on earth, then, there would, surely, BE a whole lot less messes!
