A widow, Chen, took along her two daughters, and remarried a jeweler, Lin, but Lin had, abused her two daughters, a little over five years ago, she took her children and left him, Lin was displeased at how his wife had walked out on him and the son they had together, asked the courts to annul their marriage, and mandated that she give back the property he’d given to her. The Shihlin District Courts found, that back when they were married, there was NO open rituals, and he’d taken the forgeries of the marriage license to the land offices to register, that the marriage wasn’t valid, and that Chen must return the property he’d given to her.
The judge asked the nine-and-a-half year-old child, “You can only choose to stay with mommy or daddy, who would it be?”, the little boy said in a naïve way, “with mommy, because I won’t have to do homework!” the judge believed, that Chen had the mindset of making up for a broken family, that was why she’d spoiled her son, and gave the primary custody rights to the father, but, the couple would still both be involved in the boy’s life together.
Lin works in the wholesale of jewelry, and Chen originally owned and operated a jewelry shop, and, they’d met through business. In 1994, because Chen’s husband died of illness, she and her two daughters lived on their own, and later on, Lin pursued after her, they got married in 2006.
Lin accused, that in 2009, because he’d disciplined the daughter that his wife had with her ex, his wife cussed him out, and took her daughters and left home, abandoning her then, three-year-old son, insisted on divorcing him. Chen said, that the year before they were wed, Lin made it into her daughter’s bedroom in the middle of the night, the daughter was fifteen back then, and touched her pubic area and her breasts, her daughter woke out of horror, not knowing what to do, the very next day, she’d told her mother. Back then, Lin signed a statement, that he will NEVER touch her daughter again, and Chen was stressed out about whether or not she’s to marry him, but because she was already pregnant, that, was why she’d still married him.
After they wed, Chen believed, that Lin was only into her jewelry business, plus as her daughter grew older, the frictions between her and her stepfather worsened, after Lin slapped her daughter across the face, Chen decided to take her daughter and leave him. The courts believed, that before the amendment of the law in 2008, the marriage was “ritualized”, meaning that the marriage need to be performed in public in order for it to be valid, and, on their marriage certificate, the bride had signed for the witnesses’ columns using her younger brother and sister’s names, so, the marriage was not valid.
And so, because her daughter was abused, sexually molested by her husband, she’d wanted to annul her marriage to him, and, gladly, the judge found the case in the woman’s favor, because if the judge didn’t, god KNOWS how much longer these two young women would have to suffer!
