A Life with Only Sounds, She’d Returned with Music & Poetry as Replies

From the Front Page Sections, translated…

A fire had caused, the “Code Girl”, Fu-Hwa Chuang to become blind since she was just ten, she’d lost her ability to speak also, and was paralyzed from the neck down, but, she’d not only published her own volume of poetry, had also taught herself to compose music too; in order to live her dreams of music, on the eighth of August, Chuang will be performing with Flame of the Forest Philharmonics, to give her father a very special Father’s Day present.

Twenty-one years ago, because of a fire, Chuang had lost her sight, her ability to speak and mobility too, and she’d only had her sense of hearing, connecting her to the outside world.

With only her head mobile, she’d used the star sign, with the numeric spelling charts to speak; she’d also used equipment, helped her tap out Mores Code, and manage to translate what she is saying into words via computer, which was how she’d gained her name of “Code Girl”.  A sentence considered very simple for normal people would take over ten minutes for Chuang to state completely.

Chuang had gone parachuting, surfing and canoeing, in the future, she also wanted to go skiing.  And now, she works as the “Spreader of Love” for the Maria Foundation, gone to all over the place, to share her story; last year, she’d met the conductor of the Flame Tree Philharmonics, Zhu, and fulfilled her dreams in music.

Zhu and the composer, Yi-Jun Deng worked together, and transcribed Chuang’s melodic creation of “Toward the Ocean” into a piece with the parts for the instruments for the symphony, “The Oceans of the Heart”.  Last November, it was first performed in Chuang’s hometown of Taichung, on this Saturday, on Father’s Day, it will be performed at Chenggong University, which her father will be on stage with her.

As the band played the accompaniment, Chuang used her tools, tapped out the high and low notes, her mother recited her poetry, and, Chuang also used her computer, keyed out, “The treks of falling down, ingrained onto the passage, the scene along the way is filled with beautiful moments”, these two lines.  She said, this symbolized “her hardship for the last twenty-one years”.

So, although this woman is handicapped, but she did NOT allow her handicap to stop her from doing what she loved, instead, she’d worked even harder, to make herself known to the world, and this, is a story of inspiration.
