A branch manager of a national gang, Chen started absorbing younger children in the area, to have the youths threaten the neighbors to get money, even the neighbor, Hsiao, who’d watched the younger gang member grow up fell victim too; after Chen learned that Hsiao called the police, he’d broken into Hsiao’s house, dragged Hsiao outside, in front of his sixty-year-old mother, and beaten his head until it’d started bleeding with a plastic pipe. The police arrested Chen, along with eleven others, and charged them with organized crimes, threats, and injuries.
Chen (age 28), took part in the “Zhongshan League”, but he wasn’t a member who’d murdered the police; he’d been arrested because of how violently he went after someone who’d owed debts, and he still didn’t change, in the Shezi region, he’d absorbed six high school students who just hung around on the streets a lot as members of his gang. He’d taken the youths, threatened the neighbors for money, and used the money he got from the residents to treat the group to bars, to dine.
The police found, that the forty-year-old Hsiao who hauled out the gas cartridges wasn’t well to do, he is Chen’s neighbor, watched him grow up, and, Chen told him that he’d needed some cash quick; Hsiao had originally just paid Chen $500N.T. or $1,000N.T. a time, but not knowing, that this fed to Chen’s appetite, he’d asked him for $50,000N.T., Hsiao couldn’t deal with it any longer, called the police, and after Chen found out, he’d beaten Hsiao up.
The police pointed out, that there was a sixteen-year-old youth who was told to sell firecrackers house-by-house, but the youth failed to do it, and Chen used the excuse of “getting the fees back”, headed to the youth’s house, forced the young man’s mother to turn over $15,000N.T.; there were also young men who were playing in the local parks of Shezi, who were threatened, and beaten, and their money took away from them, the youngest victim was only a third-year student in middle school, there were already five victims who’d come out to the police already.
And so, this, is just how gangs do it, they will absorb those whom they see are needing a place to belong, and then, they’d turned them, like this young man who’d beaten up his neighbor, when he couldn’t extort any money from him anymore.
