So, showing remorse is the KEY in NOT getting the DEATH sentence here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
A man named Lee, after he got high on illegal substances, hacked his own grandparents to death, then, set their bodies on fire, his cruelty was extreme, the D.A. in Kaohsiung based off of murdering one’s own family, charged him, at the court sessions, Lee kept on urging the judge gave him the death sentence, the D.A. took into considerations that he’d had a good attitude after he’d committed the crimes, plus his older uncle begged the courts, to not allow the blood to end for his younger brother, the D.A. didn’t ask the courts for a heavy sentence.
The D.A. stated, that Lee’s murdering his own grandparents is considered as a major crime, but, because of how he’d shown remorse, and he’d never used the “insanity plea” to get himself off easy, and every time the trial was in session, he’d started crying, the D.A. asked the judge for the death penalty; after the D.A. told Lee that his older uncle begged for his life to be spared, he’d melted down, reacted differently compared to other murderers.
The D.A. investigated, that the twenty-one-year-old Lee has priors in drug abuse, on the evening of March 27th, he was using ketamine at his place, and his grandmother scolded him, Lee started beating on his grandmother, used a plastic chair, steel chair, and bashed his grandmother then, he’d gone to the kitchen took a knife, and hacked his grandmother up 182 times, causing her skull to crack open and die.
After Lee hacked up his own grandmother, he’d murdered his own eighty-one year-old grandfather who’d come to stop his bad behaviors, afterwards, he’d wrapped his grandparents up with quilts, then, set the quilts on fire. After Lee murdered his grandparents, he’d felt remorse, called the police, but didn’t tell the police that he was the culprit of the two murders, and, after the police discovered there was blood stains and smoke stains on the legs of his pants, that, was when he’d told them the truth.
“I’m feeling really inconsistent”, Lee’s older uncle told the D.A., although he was very angry at how his own nephew had murdered his parents, but, because the man’s parents were divorced, Lee never had the chance of growing up in a normal family background, and his younger brother died of illness a couple of years back, the family spoiled the nephew, hoped to make up for the lack of his parents being there when he was growing up, “Please spare his life, so my younger brother’s blood won’t end”.
The Kaohsiung district attorneys believed that Lee’s act of murdering his own grandparents was totally against morality, that it should receive the harshest punishment, but, after he’d committed the crimes, he felt remorse, and didn’t try to weasel his way out from being punished, and plus Lee’s eldest uncle begged on his behalf with the D.A., the district attorney’s office asked the judge to consider his attitude, and the possibilities of him being reformed, to give him a lighter sentence.
So, this, is still the THIN line between life AND death, and although this grandchild did such horrid things to his grandparents, but, because he’d shown the necessary signs of remorse, he’d be getting just a slap on the wrist, what does that say about the law? That you CAN manipulate the system, and what sort of a precedence would this be setting for future similar cases?
