After tragedies STRUCK, translated…
I’d met this pair of twin brothers who worked in hairstyling for years, after they’d graduated from middle school, they’d told their parents, that they wanted to become hairstylists, so they could help alleviate the burdens of their father who works in hard labor.
Six months ago, their mother who’d just turned fifty was diagnosed with leukemia, the brothers would work during the daytime, and during the evenings and nights, they’d taken turns, looking after their mother, but, unfortunately, their mother still passed a few months later.
Other than feeling saddened over their losses, the brother shouldered up the responsibilities for looking after their aging paternal grandmother as well as their father, it’s just that fate was unkind, another tragedy happened to them, before they finished setting up their mother’s funeral arrangements, their grandmother tripped and fell, gotten injured very seriously, and died too. In such a short time, they’d lost two people that they loved dearly, and, overnight, the boys became men.
That day, I saw the younger brother couldn’t hide his sorrows between his eyes, as he’d talked about his mom with me, he’d become teary eyed, I’d encouraged him that he must change his thoughts, that they should be grateful of how long their mother was by their side, and only through taking good care of themselves, will they be able to look after their own father, and be able to put their mother’s and grandmother’s who are now, angels, hearts to ease. The younger brother’s lip turned upward, “Auntie, thank you. I know that my dad is having it hardest, he’d lost so much weight, and, at the beginning, he wouldn’t even eat, and so, my older brother and I can only try to entertain him, said that he must keep up his physical health, so he’ll live to see us get married, and have grandchildren for him.”
He said, that he and his older brothers are now thinking, how their mother is in heavy, and no longer tortured by chemo any longer, and they are one another’s support too, and, I couldn’t help, but giving them a thumbs up inside my mind.
And this, is the human spirit, despite what happened in their lives, they are still able to make the best of things, because their father needed them, and so, the twin brothers needed to toughen up, and, this family will survive through their shared losses together.
