The explosion at the amusement park had caused him to have ninety-five percent burns on his body, he was, a kid who loved basketball, and, as the doctors told him that they need to amputate him, he’d nodded, nonstop.
Bo-Wei Huang is one of the most seriously injured person that the Singguan Hospital took in, he had over ninety-five percent of third-degree burns on him, yesterday, he went in, for his surgery to amputate to below the knees. The man in charge of the plastic surgery department of the hospital, Lin yesterday told, that amputation is a painful decision, but, “if we don’t do it, we may well lose him.”
The first day of his treatment, his blood seeped out, and, later, the doctor hooked him up to the ECMO machines. Not willing to see his son in pain, his father asked him, “Do you want to go to heaven and be an angel?”, he’d bore with his pains, kept shaking his head hard at his father.
Huang’s lungs became stabilized yesterday, and the ECMO machines were taken off, but, there was, a large area damaged tissues on his body, although he had passed the two-week danger period, but if the doctors don’t remove the dead tissues, there would be a high risk of infection, for the sake of his survival, the hospitals suggested amputation, after Huang was consulted, his parents made this most painful decision.
Huang’s father said, that the first day after their son was taken to the Singuan Hospital, the hostpail already told them, that the surface area of the burns are too great, that amputation would be the result, in order to continue his life, last Saturday, he’d told his son, that there is the possibilities of him, losing both his legs, and on Sunday, he’d confirmed, that amputation is a must.
“A child who loved playing basketball like him, upon hearing about amputation, he’d nodded nonstop”, Huang’s father spoke, in a muffled voice, “He wanted to live”. Seeing how his son has the strong will to survive, the family decided to help him. The amputation was a huge impact on his whole family, Huang’s older brother told, that his younger brother has a lot of guts, whatever he promised, he would deliver, “and this time shall be no different.”
Lin said, that since Huang is already of age, and, amputation must be agreed upon by him, after he’d nodded, and with his parents’ signatures, yesterday, they’d removed the ECMO from his body, made sure his lungs functioned correctly, then, performed the amputation surgeries, the entire procedure lasted for about two hours.
After the surgery, Huang is in stable condition, which showed his strong will to survive.
And so, this, is the trials of life, this young man, who loved playing basketball, running around the courts, was faced with the decisions to get amputated, imagine what he had to go through, and, this, is just the beginning of his long road to recovery too.
