Twenty-One Days After She Gave Birth, the Woman Took Her Daughter, Leapt Off of a Building to Their Deaths

Suicide caused by postpartum depression???  From the Front Page Sections, translated…

A woman, Chu (age 25) in Taichung, twenty-one days ago, just gave birth to a baby girl, and started recuperating at home, yesterday afternoon, she’d carried her young to the seventh floor roof, opposite from where she lived, and took the leap downward with her daughter in her arms.  The police, after looking into the matter, believed, that Chu’s suicide was caused by her postpartum depression, causing her to be unstable emotionally; after the D.A. examined, the family had no objections, and the police had turned the body to the families now.

Chu’s husband cried and told, that his wife, just two to three days ago, complained about how “the baby cries a lot, I can’t sleep from taking care of the baby, I’m sleep-deprived, I’m really tired, I want to kill myself by leaping off of a building”, he’d consoled with her, “Don’t think too much, let’s take care of the infant together, just get through this part and we’ll be all right”.  The two of them were in the midst of planning how to celebrate their child’s one-month milestone, how many boxes of food, of cakes, to give to the friends and families, and the tragedy happens.

The psychiatrist, Lin stated, that the causes of postpartum depression is very complicated, the hormones, not having a strong enough support network, as well as body types all contribute to the illness, and, if the woman in the process of delivery shows signs of emotional instability, then, the families must pay close attention, he’d suggested that the families accompanied, supported the woman who’d given birth more after she’d given birth.

Back then, Chu’s husband was walking to his parents’ house to bring back the specialty meals for his wife, and, as he was half way home, he’d gotten the LINE message, “You need to be strong”, and heard that there were ambulance sirens nearby, he’d felt this uneasiness, ran toward the direction of the ambulance, and he saw a pair of white slippers that his wife had, and after he’d learned that his wife and child had fell off the building, he’d started screaming, “Honey, Honey”, “how did this happen”, and, rushed to the hospital, riding on the ambulance.

And so, this could’ve been avoided, had only someone paid MORE attention to the woman’s psychological stress, and, this time, this woman was experiencing some serious baby blues, and, everything else in her life just piled up, and, she finally couldn’t take it anymore!
