Hallucinations

Translated…

When my friend was studying in the Netherlands, he’d tried the famous psychedelic mushrooms.  Being a designs major, he was truly, amazed at the effects of this mushroom, “……it was, as if, someone installed photoshop in my brains, it could magnify my senses, and, everything I saw became so colorful, so weird, so pretty.”  His descriptions had me interested—there were nothing but ordinary things around him, but, because of the alterations of the chemicals on the senses, it’d become, almost magical.  And, it isn’t hard, to get this sort of mushrooms, my friend said, it looked exactly like oyster mushrooms that we have here, in the Styrofoam boxes with Saran wrap over it, sold, off of the shelves of the supermarkets locally; a lot of the tourists went to the Netherlands for the sake of just that.  But, after a few accidents, the Netherland government upped the bar for buying the produce, and now, the adults can do is buy the mushrooms and grow them on their own at home, and it’d take two weeks’ time.

Hallucinations had always been intriguing, as I once was a medical student in the hospitals, I’d often heard interesting stories.  In my memories, there were, two stories: in one, someone continually heard an old nursery rhyme from one’s own childhood days, and searched all over, but couldn’t find the source of the sound, later on, he’d learned, it was the tumor in his auditory cortex in his brains, the tumor had pressed down on the nerve endings, and so, his brain became like an old record player, taking from his memories, and repeatedly playing the sounds over, over, and over again; the other case, related to language, on a certain day, a man all of a sudden found the words he was once familiar with became hieroglyphics, in a panic, he picked up a magnifying lens, and refocused, believed that it could change what he perceived, but, he was disappointed, because all that entered into his eyes were, those hieroglyphics that got magnified.

I forgot how it’d ended for this man.  But I’d learned, that in order to experience something that’s not real, all you need to do, is fool your brain.  Hallucination, magic tricks, illusions, and fraud, the processes are different, but, they are all, one in the same.  For instance, how when my father was younger, and met a gambling group on the street—it was, a roadside stand to bet with the passersby on a game of cards—my father who was among the teenagers couldn’t ignore the enticements of the person setting up the stands and the high prize money, he’d slowly, pulled the money out of his own pockets and placed the bets.  But, it’s quite weird, he watched the larger cards get turned over, and, as the cards were turned back up again, it’d become the smaller numbers; after several times, not long thereafter, the three hundred dollars my father had with him, were completely lost.  After he’d lost the money that my mother told him to, he’d carried the guilt and the disappointments, and, since that day forward, my father decided, NEVER to gamble again.

Half a century later, to this day that I’m already a grown woman, this world’s magical tricks became even more delicate.  Placing on the 3-D glasses, sit in front of the IMAX movie screen, what people are desiring, are nothing LESS than the simulation of what’s seemingly real: the usage of the differences in vision, to create this three-dimensional feel, in the nothingness, seeing, something; if an arrow came flying, the audience would start to scream and laugh, believing, that they got what they paid for, they’d say, hehe, it seemed so real.

The most ordinary kind of hallucinations are most realistic—because it isn’t at all, extraordinary, something that people believe existed—so, “we are all created equal”, “you’re the most special”, “no good deeds go unpunished”………they may all well be, another man-made hallucination, and nothing more than that.

So, everything IS a mirage, so, how do you know what’s real?  Well, it’s based off of personal experiences, because if something IS real to you, then, no matter what others may say, it IS real to you, isn’t it???
