It’s still, a SLAP on the wrist, because instead of being charged with ATTEMPTED murder, this man got away with it, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

A couple who are both working on their medical degrees, got married last year, went to Italy for their honeymoon, because of some arguments they had overseas, they’d split up after returning to Taiwan, after their return, they’d continued to fight, the woman sued the man for attempted murder, and the D.A. here believed, that the quarrels happened overseas, and it’s not their jurisdiction, and that there was NO intent to murder in the spats they had, and so, they’d not prosecuted the man.

The D.A. pointed out, that Hsu and Chou were both medical students as they’d started dating, they got married last May, went to Italy for their honeymoon, and, started arguing because “the camera ran out of power”, Hsu accused Chou of trying to strangle her, kicking her, slapping her at the hotel, causing her to suffer multiple injuries.

Hsu also accused Chou of unplugging the phone line in their hotel suite, to prevent her from contacting outside, and threatened her in the hotel lobby, “be careful, don’t speak so outrageously”; afterwards, the two of them made an agreement, to separate after their return back to Taiwan.

During last November, as Hsu went back to Chou’s place to get her things, they got into it again, Hsu accused Chou of choking her neck, and attempted to smother her using a pillow, that he was suspected of damages, forcible acts, and attempted murder, along with other charges.

The D.A. believed, that the accusations of Chou’s threats and forcible acts, are not punishable when the citizens travel abroad, and all of these are punishable by less than three years’ worth of jail sentences, but, because the incident happened in Italy, Taiwan has NO jurisdiction over it, so, the D.A. decided not to pursue.

And, on the charge of how Chou had attempted to smother Hsu’s mouth and nose after their return to Taiwan, he claimed that it was because she was too emotional, that, was why he’d covered her mouth and nose with the pillow, as Hsu begged for her life, he’d let go.  The D.A. believed, that they didn’t have serious grudges toward one another, and were already married, plus Chou did let go, the D.A. believed, that he didn’t have the intent to murder, and so, the D.A. didn’t indict him on anything.

Wow, this time, nobody got harmed, and, this, is a very BAD precedence to set for all future similar instances, because now, this opens a gateway, that the citizens here can go abroad, and murder someone they’re married to overseas, and, so long as there’s NO proof of past abuse, then, the charges won’t stand up in court!
