Modern day people focus on keeping oneself healthy, plus, with how well we keep our bodies fit, sometimes, it’s hard, to tell a person’s age by looking. But, even IF you were able to fool others with the way you looked, however, some of the physiological aging processes still came in the order that they were, supposed to, and they just, won’t let you slide, the most apparent is presbyopia.
I’d graduated from school for a quarter of a century to date, a group of us, best friends finally made the time to reunite, because we hadn’t seen one another for so long, the moment we met up, we’d started, chit-chatting, catching up, forgot about how we should carry ourselves with more grace at our age. This group of friends, didn’t lose their figures, dressed young, even though they may have grays on their head, they’d managed to dye them all to brown, you couldn’t tell our ages by looking at us.
But, as the waiter brought the menus to us, everything changed, Mei, took her glasses off, moved the menu, closer to her nose, she has presbyopia AND myopia combined. Jade, who was sitting next to me, back then, as we’d all gone to the nurse’s office for our eye exams, she’s the one, with the perfect vision, without glasses, and her large round eyes, she managed, to turn the heads of a lot of guys in our school. It’s just, that she’d placed the menu far off, like she was reviewing over the papers, it was so funny, and, we all knew, that it was presbyopia too.
As we got lost, in the discussions of whether to get the lens for presbyopia, or bifocals, Yu-Li said, no matter how blurry, she would NOT take her glasses off, or move the objects she was viewing farther. Turns out, Yu-Li’s persistence was from a man she met, he is over a decade older than she is, but, Yu-Li just didn’t want him to know, that presbyopia had already, found her, besides, who would be willing, to admit, that one is elderly?
This made me recalled the mirror in the fairytales, the monsters who’s masked themselves up as humans, their original forms showed, as the mirror was reflecting their true selves, if you want to know the age of a modern day person, hand her/him a book, this, maybe be, a great way, for the person, to show her/his true age. Because, everything IS ruined, by presbyopia.
And so, NO matter how hard you try to make yourselves appear young, by dressing younger, by acting younger, your age is still showing, by the way the deterioration of your eyesight, and some other areas of decline, so, why don’t you, just, ACCEPT the fact, that you’re older, and stop trying to change?
