Overcoming obstacles in one’s life here, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The eight-year-old young girl, Lin, because of her domestic violence experiences at home, had never been happy, but she was able to, find the colors back into her childhood, from the colorful artwork, awhile ago, she’d learned, of the girl whose throat was cut who was the same age as she, and decided to use the summer vacation, to sell her art work, to raise funds, to help other children who were hurt like herself.
Lin’s mother said, that when she was still inside of her uterus, her birth father had beaten her physically, and she and her two other daughters put up with it for multiple years on end, last year, she’d gotten a restraining order, and after the abuser left home, the life of the family finally returned back to normal.
Lin, the young child, with two pigtails said, that she’d recalled her father telling her often, “Go away, don’t come near me”, it’d made her feel real sad. But, “whenever I start to draw, I’d forgotten about all the bad parts of life”, Lin smiled and told, that Doraemon, superwoman, are all main characters that came out of her markers, that the pandas at the zoo are also, frequenters of her sketches as well.
Lin’s mother said, that her daughter would often be so into her art, that she’d forgotten her sleep and to eat, not only does she draw cartoon characters and animals, she’d also loved copying the famous artists’ works, for instance, Van Gogh’s Starry Nights, as well as his Sunflowers. Lin said, it’s hard to imitate, “at first, I didn’t think I could do it”, but, after she’d done the drawings, she felt, that she’d “made improvements on her techniques”.
Other than sketches, Lin would always use her mother’s threads for sewing as paintbrushes, dipped in the colors, and started painting on the papers, “the strings became soft brushes and it’s really fun!”
Lin said, that she saw on the news of how a child who’s around her age had her throat slit and murdered, and her school instructor taught her class, to protect themselves, it’d made her realize how important children’s rights are. After she’d discussed it over with her mom, she’d decided to paint and sell her work, to help those like her, and had specially put the U.N.s and Taiwan’s Children’s Rights Laws, for instance, she’d drawn a group of people, holding hands, symbolizing “the society coming together, to protect the children”, hoping that everybody start paying focus on children’s safety.
Lin’s English name is “Angel”, and her exhibition was titled, “Eight-Year-Old, Angel Lin’s Art Exhibit”, the forty five paintings were placed on display yesterday at the county library in Hsinchu, in the future, she will sent her exhibition on tour around other counties and cities. Lin’s mother said, that the money they earned from the fundraising will be donated into the Taiwan Families and Children Foundation, hoped, that her daughter’s wish can be fulfilled, with the help from the public.
And so, you have a little girl, who’d been through awful things in her life, and yet, she stood, undefeated, and she’s helping others out, doing what she can, to make this world a better place.
