Problems that face the aging population, from the Front Page Sections, translated…
The population makeup in Taiwan is aging at supersonic speed, the baby boomers who once contributed to the miracles in economy is slowly becoming the “grandma and grandpa generations”.
Based off of predictions by statistical measures, starting next year, the population of the elderly group will surpass the population of children, followed by the aging speed increasing fast, by 2025, Taiwan will enter into the extremely elderly society.
Because of this trend, making the living environment more friendly to the aging community became a key point in the direction of the society; all of the counties and cities in Taiwan, are now, trying to catch up to the standard of WHO’s “Friendly Cities for Elderly”, hoped, that we can make a friendly city for the retired group, “the Encores”, to have friendly “Encore cities” to live in.
But how, do we manage, to capture the hearts of these members of the retired population? Can the various cities and counties really manage, to set up the local areas that fits the needs and requirements of the elderly communities?
Based off of the surveys by the Internal Affairs, the results showed, that the top three goals for those who are fifty-five and older are: being healthy, being able to be with families, and with no worries of the economic wellbeing; the various scholars also pointed out, that the elderly in Taiwan had met up with three problems the most, and these areas needed improving, and they are: a method to find work again, volunteering opportunities, and, to get educated with the high-tech stuff.
And so, aging, is now, a VERY important issue, and it’s not just aging that’s important, aging WELL is the vital topic here, and because the enterprises now are looking for younger folks to work, because let’s face it, as we get older, our bodies are not as strong, and our reaction time slows considerably, and, there’s NO way we can catch up, to the fast-paced development of technologies, so there’s this thought of setting up elderly-friendly places here.
and no, this photo was still NOT taken by me!!!
