On selfless giving, from the Front Page Sections, translated…

“I’m elderly now, I don’t want to be a burden to the Taiwanese community”, the Swiss nun, Gray who’d given over half a century worth of dedication and time to Taiwan fell ill after she was older, felt that she could no longer give to the Taiwanese people, decided to return to her home country, yesterday, as she’d left on her flight, many people had gone to see her off.

Came to Taiwan at Thirty-Two, a Lot of People Were in Tears as She Went Off

In 1965, Nun Gray was only thirty-two, along with a couple of priests, arrived at the eastern side of Taiwan, they’d realized, that there wasn’t enough medical supplies and quality of service up in the mountain regions, so they’d decided to stay on the mountains, to offer aid to the natives, and started a simple clinic in Taidong, which started their medical careers in Taiwan.

Nun Gray had the medical trainings, and could take on patients, during the earlier times, the people who lived in the region were usually poor, and so, Nun Gray never took their money, and, even if she did take the fees, it was usually just five or ten dollars N.T.  if there were elderly in the mountains who needed the medical assistance, Nurse Gray would ride her motorcycle to see them.

Once on the way to see a patient, Nun Gray got into a car wreck, shattered her scapula, and her toes were bent out of shape too, she could no longer ride the motorcycle anymore, but she feared, that her patients would not be looked after, and so, she’d walked to them.

A fellow member of the community in Chenggong, Taidong, Chung said, sixteen years ago, her daughter had a mild ear infection, back then, there was no nighttime emergency rooms, and she could only carry her daughter to the St. Cross’s Mercy to ask for help, Nun Gray didn’t say a word, started treating her daughter, with another nun who had already passed away, and finally her daughter was resting easily, as her daughter got older, she’d even written a song for Nun Gray called, “White Butterfly”, describing how her nun’s headdress would fly in the wind as she rode the motorcylces to treat her patients.

Sixty Motorcycle Escorted Her in Taidong

After learning the Nun Gray was leaving Taiwan, the Harley Motorcycle Squad that was a part of the HSL trains, two days ago, called on sixty Harleys to see Nun Gray off in Taidong; the team captain, Chiao said, that after Nun Gray returned to Switzerland, she may not come back here again.

“Nun Gray had health issues, her calf may retain too much water for sitting too long”, Pastor Lu and the congregation used the funds they’d raised, and bought her a ticket for the business class, hoped that she could feel more comfortable on the airplane. Lu said, “This, is the only thing that the Taiwanese can do for her”.

“Thanks to the Taiwanese, for allowing me to take care of them, I truly, really love Taiwan.”, Nun Gray said, but, she’s getting elderly, otherwise, she would love to stay in Taiwan a little longer, after she returned to Switzerland, there would be a tema of medical experts looking after her.  After she’d finished speaking, members of the public immediately brought her flowers, and hugged her goodbye.

Nun Gray had dedicated her entire life to Taiwan, not asking for anything in return, her selfless love moved us all, there was a smile on her face, but, we will never see it again in Taiwan.  Thank you, Nun Gray.

And so, this, is a story of selfless giving, to another different culture, and, this woman had dedicated her entire life, to help change the world, and she’d done wonderfully, and now, she’s going back to her home country, because she’s aged and didn’t want to be a burden to the people she’d looked after.
