Awhile ago, I’d gathered with my girlfriends, I’d heard Mei-Ling told of how her son, Wei-Wei had finally decided to marry his long-time girlfriend. But, the future in-laws hoped that Wei-Wei could buy a property, and register it under their daughter’s name; Mei-Ling’s husband suspected that the future in-laws had their eyes on the house, and so, they’d gotten into disagreements.
After Fang-Fang heard, she’d stated, then, just register the property in the woman’s name then, don’t we all register our properties under the names of our own young too? Ying-Ying had a different take, because their house belonged to her husband. Mei-Ling explained, because the housing prices are way too high in the city of Taipei, her son couldn’t possibly afford it.
Jing reminded Mei-Ling, then, why don’t the parents help put up the down payments then, after Mei-Ling heard, she’d started frowning, “But we can’t come up with a couple of millions right away, and my husband might not agree to it.” Chu gave an advice, wanted Mei-Ling, to tell Wei-Wei to not get a place in the center of the city, and choose an older property, it would be a lot cheaper. Mei-Ling sighed, said, that her son has NO sense of money, and didn’t have that much saved up in his bank accounts.
Jing shared her own experiences, seven, eight years ago, she’d taken out a second mortgage on her own property, and gave the money to her three children, as their fund for their houses; although her husband was against it, but she believed, that helping her kids buy a house is a way, to help the children save some money, otherwise, the children will blow their money away on travel, and other things, after the houses are bought, the children will be responsible for paying up the loans, and they will naturally learn, to nickel and dime. Jing’s husband thought about how their daughter would rather travel and not save the money, and that if their son has a house, then, the daughter-in-law would feel more secure, and so, he’d agreed. And now, the three kids all have properties under their names, and they’re now, even more careful with money too, she felt, that the results were wonderful.
Seeing how the girlfriends all commended Jing for the way she’d done things, Mei-Ling decided to persuade her husband too, told him, “Helping our kids buy the houses is forcing our children to save their money too!”
And so, this, is one way, to make sure your kids are saving up the money that they are earning, otherwise, they’ll be blowing it all away, because they have NO sense of obligation, because you’d taken care of everything for them, but, by making them pay the monthly installment and interests for the properties, you’re making them get into the habits of saving the money that they’re earning.
