Translated…
Feng-Mei is my best friend, her daughter is beautiful, and, there were, guys who pursued after her; she knew, that the more she’d restricted her daughter, her daughter would fight back, and so, unless it was, absolutely, necessary, she wouldn’t meddle into her daughter’s affairs.
There was, a guy who’d pursued after her daughter very forcefully, who played music, not studious at all, she’d consoled with them peacefully, “I’m not against the two of you being together, but, you’re still, very young, you two should focus more on your studies, I’d planned to send my daughter to college, and you must work hard also.”
Feng-Mei is a single mother, she’d poured her heart and soul into raising her daughter, sent her daughter abroad to continue her education. Many years later, her daughter earned her master’s degree, and met up with her husband from work, who had gone to Japan, to study landscape designs, has a doctorate in the field, they were, perfectly matched up.
After her daughter found a good man, Feng-Mei felt well, after she’d let go of her burdens, close to age sixty, she didn’t want to just sit at home, felt that she is still able-bodied, and can cook, she’d started selling dumplings at a stand in the night markets, hoped, that she could make her elderly years more meaningful.
On the eve of Chinese Valentine’s Day one year, she’d set up her stand, there was, a well-dressed young man who’d come to her stand, with a bouquet of flowers, and a box of chocolates, she was confused, looking at this handsome lad before her, and, after a long while, she’d realized, that it was, that boy, from way back then.
Feng-Mei thought that he’d wanted to continue the relationship with her daughter, and, she’d told the guy the goings on with her daughter to him, and said, with this weird atmosphere, “I’m sorry, my daughter is already married.” The boy told Feng-Mei, “Auntie, I knew I wasn’t good enough for your daughter, after all, there is, a huge gap between our levels of education. The reason why I’m here today, was to thank you, for encouraging me back then, I’d graduated from Arts University already, I have a music classroom set up right now, and I intend to continue my graduate education, the presents are for you!”
What an amazing present, hearing the boy’s words of gratitude, Feng-Mei felt really moved, it’s been over decades, he not only didn’t blame her to breaking them up, he’d kept pursuing his own interests in music all these years, and knew to be grateful too; such an outstanding young man, Feng-Mei wished, that he could find, someone matching for him.
And so, a word of encouragement from way back, had made the success of this young man possible, and, the mother was only wanting what’s best for her daughter, I’m sure, when she’d told the boy off, and, because of the harshness of the words, the boy started motivating himself, to do better, and, because of his hard-working mannerisms, he’d found his own success too.
