The girls in their twenties should be wearing colorful makeup, with a fashionable do, dressed fashionably, getting involved in the various extracurricular activities across the university campuses, or, getting ready for dates with their boyfriends! But, in her twenty-year-old body, Fang has a very mature mind.
That day, I’d gone to the salon again, Fang, with smiles from ear to ear, massaged my shoulder and neck skillfully, it’d impressed me deeply. I’d struck up conversation, “Your mom should be the same age as me? My son is only a few years older than you are.”
She’d smiled that shy smile, “My mother is only forty, and, I also have an older brother!”
It’d gotten me curious, “Then, where’s your dad?”, Fang fell silent for a short bit, then replied, “I don’t have a dad, my mother got pregnant out of wedlock, she’d worked hard, raised us up, and she’d even bought a house.” “Your mom is amazing! Raised you and your brother up, and bought a house too, she’s amazing!”, I’d commended.
“She is, amazing! But, I think my mom is really dumb, she’d had my older brother out of wedlock already, and, had me too. I’d sometimes wondered, if I was born, into a family with both parents, what, would I be like now?” as she’d worked on my scalp with care, she’d continued, “But, actually, growing up in a single parent household is no big deal, there are, a lot of less fortunate kids out there who are having it harder than I am! Although I can’t choose my family, but I can work hard for my future, so, I’d found a school that allows me to part-time, so I can work and study at the same time.”
Looking over at Fang who’s independent and able-bodied, I’d continued asking, “Then, do you know who your father is?” she’d shown that look, “No, when I was younger, I was always curious about it, if he’s still alive or not. But my mother never spoke about him, and hoped, that we wouldn’t ask her about it. Later on, my older brother and I had let it go, it’s not that important whether or not we have a dad, after all, mom worked hard, to raise us up.”
Fang smiled, continued, “my mom’s found a great partner too now, even though, she didn’t say, but I know who he is. I’d just reminded my mom, to observe him more, to NOT put all her emotions in right away, and, to NOT have another baby who will call me, older sister!”
The varied experiences in life had added to the fullness of life, after I’d read through the youth of Fang, I was moved, by how blessed she felt, about her own life.
This is still, ALL in the attitude, because she couldn’t change her past, and, she can only make sure, that she’s doing ALL she can, to make her own life work, and, this young woman is doing exactly that!
