A man, of Burmese descent, Tseng and a Taiwanese woman, Liu owed debts to the credit card companies, they’d decided to fake her death, to scam the insurance companies; they’d used their trip to Burma, to falsify their deaths, and had the issuance of a cremation, Liu had even lain in a coffin, to get the insurance companies to trust them; after they were able to scam half a million dollars N.T. from an insurance company, it’d gotten Nanshan Life to question, and Nanshan Life notified the police, and, that, was how their scams busted.
On the 22nd of this month, as Tseng entered into the country, he was immediately arrested, and, Liu realized, that there was no way she could escape, she’d taken the words of the police, returned to Taiwan two days ago, turned herself in, yesterday, she was ordered to be taken into custody by the District Attorney’s Office in Taipei. As she was being taken in, she’d cried, and told, that back then, her boyfriend told her, that after they have the money, he’ll buy a false Burmese identity for her, then, marry her in Taiwan, she thought it would be easy, but, she’d spent three years away from home, without any legal status, and her boyfriend had met another, and had a baby with her, she regretted everything she’d done.
The police said, that the 32-year-old Tseng and 31-year-old Liu met back in 2006, back then, Tseng worked as an insurance agent, in order to help him with his sales, Liu had taken out half-a-million dollar’s worth of life insurance with him. After they started dating, they’d owed the credit card companies over hundred thousands of dollars, in 2012, in order to pay up all their debts, they’d decided to fake her death, to scam the insurance companies.
Liu had gotten an eight-million dollar life insurance, the beneficiary was her siblings, the two of them had gone to Burma to travel twice in that same year, on the second time, they’d lied that Liu died of encephalitis, and had the local government given them a death certificate, the proof of cremation, as well as a photo of Liu, lying in the coffin too, and, Liu’s family asked the insurance company to pay, and, the total amount, Tseng had left with.
The Detective Department got a call from Nanshan Life and chased the leads to Burma, and found, that the city hospital where Liu supposedly died in never wrote out a death certificate for her, and the doctor who supposedly signed the paper work doesn’t exist. The police also found, that Liu’s family didn’t go to Burma for the funeral like claimed, instead, they’d been at home, and, Tseng who was originally living in Taipei, after the incidents, started residing in Burma long-term, and, after the police interviewed all their friends, relatives and families, they confirmed that it’s a case of insurance fraud.
You try to scam the system, and look where it got you? Nowhere, and, this couple had gone all out too, to fake the woman’s death, and for what? A very long time in jail, so not worth it!
